Roy Safaris, Tanzania – Review

Roy Safaris, highly recommended on TripAdvisor, is a local Tanzanian company that organizes safaris only in Tanzania.

September 6-14, 2021

This is my second time using Roy Safaris, the first being in 2013. The quality of the service and the experience has only improved since my last visit.

What I particularly like is about the company is the ability to have a private driver/guide for the entire length of the safari. While you can fly between regions and avoid long dusty drives you give up the ability to have your own driver who caters the trip to your preferences. Our guide Emmanuel (Manny) was superb at observing what we liked and wanted and delivered above expectations. He worked hard to find us great sightings and well as making sure we were comfortable.

Sanjay coordinated the details of our trip including arranging the necessary Covid tests for onward travel. Everything worked as planned.

I had booked this trip nearly a year in advance of a September 2020 trip. With Covid-19 we postponed the trip to 2021. The pandemic has been hard on the safari tourism industry and although there were some communications hiccups we were able to postpone our trip with the resulting product exceeding expectations.

August 27 – September 11, 2013

The folks at Roy Safaris were very responsive and easy to work with. As normally independent travelers we had lots of suggestions and questions about what we wanted to do and where we wanted to stay. They answered all our emails promptly and gave us the information we needed to make decisions without trying to steer us in one direction or another.

Our trip was well organized and executed without incident. They arranged our flight from Kigali, Rwanda to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti, 11 days of safari and accommodations in the northern and central Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire Natl Park, and the flights to and from Zanzibar as well as accommodations on the island.

Our guide, Tesha, was an absolute gem and often worked very long days. He picked us up at the Kogatende airstrip and stayed with us for the 11 day safari as we opted to drive between the northern and central regions of Serengeti National Park.
