It doesn’t get much cuter than France’s Alsace region, brimming with villages of flower-covered half-timber structures in a rainbow of colors and surrounded by miles of vineyards. Colmar, located on the southern end of the Route de Vins that snakes through this region between the Vosges mountains and the Rhine, makes a great starting point or home base. From here some of the most picturesque villages, namely Eguisheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr, are an easy day trip from town. Better yet, rent a bike and explore the region at a more leisurely pace.
