After breakfast we did the hike from Oia to Fira. While most people do this walk in the opposite direction it doesnāt really matter where you start except that Fira is at a higher elevation and you do more climbing heading that way.
Itās an OK trail that mostly runs along the coast with some nice views. How pretty it is depends a lot on the weather and the light. There was not much wind on this particular day, but it was a bit hazy and the sun too harsh for dazzling photos.
What I like about the hike is you get a feel for the island and the difference between the towns, much more than if you simply visit the towns by bus or car. As you walk you get the sense of the crescent shape of the caldera as you wind around the ridge top. Took us about 3 hours with photo stops.
Fira has a more commercial vibe compared to Oiaās elegance. Still, all the towns along the caldera have amazing views and it would be difficult to say which spot really has the best vantage point. Take the walk and see how it changes.
Once in Fira you can easily take a bus back to Oia.
