Palamidi Fortress, Nafplio, Greece

Late in the afternoon we made a quick jaunt up the 1000 steps or so to the Palamidi Fortress, taking about 20-30 minutes to reach the top.

Great vista although the views over Nafplio at this time of day are directly into the sun.  Also keep in mind, especially if you are visiting in the summer that the climb up in the morning is shaded but in the afternoon you’re in full sun. The rebuilt ruins are impressively big but without much description, not even in the Rick Steves’s guidebook.

The best part for us were these two snakes doing some sort of mating ritual at the entrance – a sort of dance as they intertwined their bodies darting up and down the rock face.
