You know that when the Rick Steves guided tour begins by emphasizing the necessity of a grand imagination to visualize the site in its day, you should keep your expectations in check. The Acropolis is just such an example.
The ruins, perched on a cliff with panoramic views of the city below, are not as impressive as their history, especially with the front of the Parthenon cloaked in scaffolding. That said, against a stormy sky the grandeur that this site once had becomes much more apparent.
I highly recommend the Rick Steves free app and audio tour to help bring the ruins to life.
