Golf Barbaroux, Provence, France

With easy access off the A8, we stopped at Barbaroux (outside of Brignoles) for a quick round on our way to St Tropez. The only thing quick about the round was how quickly it turned in to a slow slog.

The front nine of this target style hotel resort course demonstrates what happens when you try to fit a golf course on questionable terrain – short holes, extreme changes in elevation and blind tees. Holes 2 and 3 are also carts-on-path only with wide, steep fairways. Add a few slow beginners in front of us and it took an hour to play the first 3 holes. On a brighter note, the back nine leveled off quite a bit and the course is generally in good shape.

Although the course is supposedly walkable most players use a cart because of the steep climbs and longish distances between holes. It will, however, rack up those Fuel Band steps.
