The Luberon mountains cut through Provence. Low rolling hills compared to the Alps to the east or the Pyrenees to the southwest or even Mont Ventoux just to the north, still they afford picturesque views of the vast Provencal country side. This 13 kilometer trail climbs steeply through forest with a minimal number of switchbacks to a ridge trail that crosses several passes with amazing panoramas before descending down another, albeit, not so steep trail back to the starting point.
The trail is blazed yellow and generally easy to follow, although along the ridge it’s easy to confuse the trail with the dirt road that also traverses the passes. As they both head to the same point it would be difficult to get lost.
Just watch for the cairn and yellow blaze that marks the trail to the left that heads back down the mountain at #4 on the map.
From Le Parc naturel regional du Luberon…à pied, #7 Le versant nord du Grand Luberon. Starting point: About 8 kilometers east of Apt along D900, take D48 south to D223. The parking area is along a dirt road heading south off of D223 about 400 meters west of the la ferme des Piroublets (Piroublets farm). Take the yellow blazed trail that climbs to the south.
