A Stroll Through Pau, France

Early Easter morning in Pau, capital of the departement  Pyrénées-Atlanticques, with spectalur view of the nearby peaks, and about an hour inland from the Atlantic coastal towns, of Biarritz and Bayonne.

  1. Pau is not at all a Basque city . It’s in Béarn, and it was the capital of French Navarre until Henry IV, King of Navarre who became King of France and Navarre .
    The Basque country is further west, although in the same departement . Main cities : Bayonne and Biarritz .

Pour renforcer la France, Cathérine de Médicis, sa mère, la marie de force au protestant Henri de Navarre, futur roi Henri IV. Mais le massacre de la Saint-Barthélémy est là qui s’annonce…
